J.J. Freitag is a Senior Associate with Azure Capital Partners where he specializes in internet applications, connected home, mobile and consumer devices and related technologies.
J.J. works with several companies in the Azure portfolio, including SlideRocket, Phanfare, and Neonova Network Systems, and was working with Vapps prior to its sale to Citrix Systems. Prior to joining Azure, J.J. was active in the venture capital community in New York. He was instrumental in fundraising for companies spun out of the portfolio at Columbia Science and Technology Ventures and served as General Manager for StackSafe systems as they raised their first institutional round of capital. He also worked with RRE Ventures on portfolio company strategy.
J.J. has held a number of operational roles in his career at startup and established technology companies. He was an enterprise sales director at Hyperion Solutions. Prior to that he was the director of sales at Edgenet where he helped the company grow from eight million to twenty five million in annual revenue, and before that, he held an enterprise sales position at Brio Technologies. Prior to Brio, J.J. was a product manager for SQRIBE Technologies where he led a team that released two of the first commercial enterprise applications built entirely in Java and helped grow the company profitably from ten to forty five million dollars in revenue over three years. He began his technology career with Oracle. J.J. also spent two years as a research analyst for Dr. John Cogan at the Hoover Institute.
J.J. holds an M.B.A. from Columbia University where he graduated with Dean’s List honors and has B.A. in Public Policy from Stanford University where he was a team captain and All-American on the national championship swim team.
